Statistical Outworking

Some of the tacit information available by way of our parents and Grandparents, points at the drift in society towards materialism and the dichotomy of needs versus wants. This is simply to do with comments in my own family about the working situations of families these days, and the need for both parents of a child to work - usually putting the child(ren) in daycare so they can do so. It is hard to find actual statistics for this situation as they’ve only been keeping statistics on family income in very recent years - hence the need to focus to tacit knowledge.

As our culture becomes more and more focused on “keeping up with the Jones” there is a need for more family income. Items like an ipod become “percieved needs” as we’re presented with more and more material objects, and told by the media that we must have these things, subliminally through happy people from happy families sporting the items.

One of the most recent and controversial adverts (if only for the commentary on how far away the microsoft brand was from what the adverts displayed) is the following:
